This toolkit is for use by our Make-A-Wish affiliates, in particular the affiliate ethics officer and the HR department, and contains tips and materials for rolling out the Code of Ethics and Good Conduct.
The Code can be found at: ourcode.worldwishnetwork.com
The Code of Ethics and Good Conduct is intended to be a living document, containing a set of guiding values developed by and for Make-A-Wish.
It contains our values on several levels:
The code expresses our commitment to values such as integrity, quality, trustworthiness, honesty, respect, responsibility, fairness, and caring. It is not just about illegal actions, rather it expresses our attitudes and expected behavior at Make-A-Wish.
For us at Make-A-Wish, it became important for our affiliates and the International office to address certain attitudes and understandings after many years of working together. We collaborate on wishes (travel, celebrities, sports events, international wish experiences) and have many international donors across our worldwide community.
In addition, this is normal practice: many organizations have a code of ethics, and there is a general expectation from the public that the largest wish granting charity in the world should have a code of ethics.
Our core values (child focus, integrity, innovation, impact and community) are integrated in this code. In addition to our core values, the Code addresses expected behavior among the persons volunteering and working for Make-A-Wish.
We hope you will find this toolkit useful. Please direct your questions and ideas for improvement to the Ethics Officer at International (ethicsofficer@worldwish.org).
